THE
ISLE OF CALVINO - a documentary film
by Roberto Giannarelli & Pierpaolo Andriani
Director: Roberto Giannarelli
2005, 60'
"THE
ISLE OF CALVINO" explores the first forty years of Italo
Calvino's life, the movement in time and space that the writer
undertook crossing cities, continents and stories, from Cuba
where he was born in 1923 to his return to the island in 1964.
Our portrait, written with Calvino's own words, follows the
individual experiences of a young man destined to become one
of the most outstanding writers of the past century, while
revealing in the background - and in unusual perspectives
- some of the most important events of his time: emigration
towards the Americas, Fascism, the second world war, the anti-fascist
struggle in Europe, the Cold War, the Cuban Revolution.

According
to the W.H.O., industrial food is one of the greatest killer in
the world. We are therefore in the middle of a war that civilization
is fighting against itself. Are we still capable of distinguishing
between what is good and what is bad? Has the taste instinct withered?
Personal taste is acquired at table while sharing meals with those
who have a strong sense of identity. If we don’t have any
more personal taste, it’s because we are not transmitting
it through generations. A break from tradition without any historic
precedence.
